Passage
Real Estate Architecture Summer School, revisiting the apartment building, Liège, Belgium, 2016
In collaboration with Igor Machata
Borrowing Gordon Matta Clark’s technique of ‘literal destructions’, the project proposes a transversal cut through the 400-meter-long urban block in the city of Liege in Belgium. A new passage is carved out by a careful removal of building fragments. This path crosses a sequence of spaces that were originally disconnected: a lobby, a courtyard, a former warehouse and a square are now part of a distinct ensemble. A new life can unfold in this altered space allowing for a functional mix inside the urban block.
